WE JUST COMPLETED THE MOST INSANE 10 day road trip across West Africa!! Wow, I cannot believe how many stories we have to tell for the rest of our lives.

I've been traveling with my Spanish buddy Alvaro, who is now 1 country away from visiting every country in the world, and we both agree that this has been one of the most difficult trips of our lives both mentally and physically. It's a logistical nightmare to plan, not to mention the constant corruption and bribery at every police checkpoint and border crossing.

But we did it.

And looking back already, it was an incredible trip and one for the memories. Thank you to everyone who followed our journey along the way! Many more stories to come from Senegal and then onwards to the Middle East and Central Africa!

Western Man Travels To Africa For The First Time And Deeply Falls For A Beautiful Tribe Girl

Here are 5 things you need to know before booking a trip to Africa:
1) Do not let the flight prices discourage you (1:25)
2) Know the Seasons (2:21)
3) what type of trip are you planning? (5:10)
4) Travel to tourist friendly countries first (7:33)
5) Visas and Vaccinations (9:00)

In the video, I am speaking in broad terms. There’s 54 countries in Africa and most are very different from one another. Regarding the 1st tip, most countries in Africa are budget friendly, but there are some that are a little pricier. With that being said, I am a “budget traveler”. I do stay at cheaper hotels and hostels if I’m traveling solo. If you want to stay at nicer accommodations, Africa has PLENTY of 4 and 5 resorts/ hotels.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and YouTuber who's been to 52 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017. So far, my trips have taken me to Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.

I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known travel destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This trip marked the start of my efforts to make a YouTube full-time job.

After that European trip I went heavily into exploring Asia, visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan (seeing me cover a lot of Far East and Southeast Asia in particular).

I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Israel and Palestine.

To date, I have not yet been to Australasia or South America. Though I am hoping to visit the latter sometime in 2022, along with a first stop in the Caribbean.

I've travelled to North America just once as a YouTuber, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was only as a child on family holidays.

I have just begun my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa in 2022, starting in Kenya.

Crossing Africa is a once in a lifetime solo expedition by Mario Rigby to trek across the entire African continent from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt by foot and paddle boat only.

This is a rigorous two year journey that will cover uncharted terrain while covering 12 countries and a diverse range of environments, including deserts, jungles, and areas of civil unrest.

Mario began his journey in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2015, walking up to 50 klms a day, while traveling through Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan and ending at his destination of Cairo, Egypt in February 2018.

Thanks for watching.

★★ WHY DO THIS? ★★

● To fulfill a burning drive for exploration and adventure and re-enforce my belief in humanity, all while testing my body and mind to the absolute limit.

● Inspire: The drive for curiosity and exploration is vanishing in today's fast-paced and digital world. I think unlike past generations, more people are hesitant to venture out and meet strangers. We are all filled with unimaginable potential -- perhaps my adventure inspired others to move away from their comfort zones and unleash theirs.

● Not only was it an exploration of the land, it’s also a genuine interest of the people within it, and to learn from them.

● Only a few have done it from Cape Town to Cairo, and they have been westerners. I wanted to take on a modern challenge and show Africa in a way that’s unique by walking side-by-side with Africans, staying where they stay.

● I wanted to explore the world in a unique way that allowed me to experience the villages, tribes, and cultures without the convenience of just leaving any place at any time. If you walk you can’t just leave at night and go somewhere else. You have to arrive and then befriend strangers within minutes.

Hey Y’all!!!!

Listed below is everything I use to create my trip!!!

As I have said before, do plenty research! The major international airport is in Cape Town (CPT). Check with the hotel you book with to see if they offer free transportation. If they do not, get shared official transportation (it is cheaper than private service).

~

South Africa: The hotel that I booked was The Taj, Cape Town. It is a 5 star hotel that is in the heart of the city. It has awesome accommodations and great restaurants inside, so you never have to go outside to get food if you don’t want to.

I used Viator to book my tours while in Cape Town (link listed below). There are so many museums that I wish I had time to visit (if you have time, check out District Six museum, Salve Museum Cape Town, The African Portrait Art Gallery, among many others).

~

Zambia: The international airport is in Livingstone (LVI). My hotel was Zgoma Zanga lodge and they arranged transportation from the airport. I loved the hotel (staff was so friendly and helpful) and they offered free breakfast as well.

I used Viator for my tour to Mukuni village. I asked the tour guide that lead my village tour if he could arrange my Lion Walk tour, and he did (which was the same price as if was on viator). Once I formed a trusting relationship with him, I hired him to be my personal taxi driver which was very beneficial being a solo traveler. His name was Clifftone (email: cliffstalic@gmail.com). He was very nice and honest, he also took me across the boarder to Zimbabwe.

~

Zimbabwe: I landed in Zambia and crossed the border to Zimbabwe. There is an immigration border where you show your visa (that you can purchase online or at the airport) and your passport to cross to either side.

The hotel that I stayed at was Nguni Lodge in Victoria Falls. The hotel was nice, but it had a lot of insects (spiders and bugs)…. sooooo if you are okay with that, book!! lol

The found the Rosa Charity orphanage tour on Viator (called Pay it Forward tour). To donate visit: https://www.roseofcharity.net
I also got the River Boat and Victoria Falls tour on Viator. As y’all can see, I get almost all my tours from viator!!!!

The Devil’s Pool experience, I paid for when I was there through a local travel company. Just FYI, the Devil’s Pool entrance is on the Zambia side….. if I would have known, I would have did the tour while on the Zambia side instead of after I crossed the border.

~
I flew first class throughout the entire vacation as a gift to myself for working tirelessly as a Registered Nurse. First Class traveling is expensive as hell!!!! But if you can do it, I highly recommend it:)

Flights: https://www.momondo.com/
Tip: when purchasing flights to countries, be sure to NEVER choose a flight with multiple carriers (if one flight gets cancelled or delayed, the other flight/carrier will not honor or accommodate you)!!!!!! In some cases, you have no other choice.... but just keep that in mind.

Hotels: https://www.booking.com/
Tip: I generally only book with 4-5 star hotels. Specifically because they offer comfortable accommodations, security, on-site food, etc. I look for all that in a hotel! Especially traveling solo, choose a hotel that you do not have to leave unless you are touring.

Tours: https://www.viator.com/
Tip: Viator is absolutely my favorite app when it comes to finding great tours. I ONLY choose tours that have 5 star rating and are valid. Always read the inclusions and exclusions before booking.

I really hope these websites help you. They all can be downloaded as an app! The apps can be used to create trips to anywhere in the world.

There is an old African proverb that says " if you want to go quickly, go alone, if you want to go far far, go together "
Let's journey together, as we take paths less traveled, and share the stories of Africa.

Some believe that the word "Africa" is a derivation of the Greek word "aphrikē", which translates as "the land that is free from cold and horror". Alternatively, it could be a variation of the Roman word "aprica", meaning sunny; or the Phoenician word "afar", meaning dust

We call it home, and invite you to explore this beautiful continent with us.

We explored the Makgadikgadi salt pans in the center of the country, the Gcwihaba Caverns in the West and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the south. We also shortly ventured into Zimbabwe to marvel upon the majestic Victoria Falls. We were lucky enough to spot most of the big, and many small, animals which call Botswana home. These include elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos, kudus, oryx, ostriches, honey badgers, bat-eared foxes, serval cats, warthogs, springboks, impalas and many more.

We're obviously aware of and deeply concerned about the global pandemic, and are choosing carefully what to publish as forms of escapism and entertainment to help ease thoughts of anxiety, and provide an alternative from the news. We are obviously NOT encouraging anyone to travel now or discouraging social distancing.
